First Trike Built in Uganda

Celebrate with us at His Wheels International. Our first trike is well on the way to being completed in Kampala Uganda by Ideas Workshop. Jon and his team at Ideas Workshop has been working closely with Vadim, one of His Wheels board members and our team to work through the glitches. Jon’s team has built this trike off the blueprints only from our website, without having a model to study while building. Great job Team Ideas Workshop. Pray with us that this trike will be the beginning of getting trikes throughout East Africa and beyond.

Pakistan Contact

As Evvy Campbell, a Wheaton College Professor Emeriti said, “Development work is accomplished one relationship at a time.” Today Alice had a conversation with a relief worker in Pakistan who was interested in exploring possibilities with His Wheels trike, while working within an Anglican Church structure there. The networking tentacles for this went far and wide. Alice attends a local Anglican church who partners with the same relief organization locally. There was the opportunity to share about NOWPDP, a Muslim organization in Pakistan who ran a trike building contest back in 2016-17(?), which Alice and HWI were part of the International judging board. Then there was Katie, a missionary who we encouraged along the way back in 2007, who built a rugged wheelchair there. I sent this new contact a picture of the trike, which I’m including below. The other networking pieces were our contacts with Universities who bring a variety of discipline expertise that they are willing to share with His Wheels and their students. Pray for God’s hand on his development work through one relationship building opportunity at a time.

University Contacts

Yesterday Alice had a great time interacting with our Messiah College contact. Through the relationship building times we’ve spent, Messiah sent us a contact to a student at Taylor University (TU). We have had a trike at TU for some time, but due to a variety of things student trike projects haven’t taken off. After talking with our Messiah contact, Alice talked with a TU student about a trike project as he explores junior and senior engineering projects. Please pray with us for God to use His Wheels for his glory in his ways and his time.

A Teacher Worthy of Honor

By Dr. Stella Kasirye

Malawi Country Team Leader: Peachtree Tubepoka Malawi Legacies

He comes to the front as his name is called out with his wife in tow. He has a questioning look on his face wondering what this is about. He is not used to being the centre of attention. Winfore Kanyika, like the biblical Mordecai, is about to be honoured, an honour that is long overdue. He is given a hand pedaled trike, a gift from His Wheels International. The questioning look is replaced with pure joyful disbelief. Winfore’s wife is dumbfounded.

Wezi Phiri breaks out into a song of praise and gratitude, “Jalawe lange ndi Yesu,” meaning Jesus is my rock. His mother who is also his Sunday school teacher, joins him and they flit back and forth across the stage of Chitipa Africa International Church. The reason for their joy is that Wezi has just received a hand pedalled trike from His wheels International (more…)

Pakistan Accessible Design Contest

Our HWI team was honored to have the unique and outstanding opportunity to participate on this Pakistan Contests international judging board for NOWPDP,

The contest received sixty design entries. The NOWPDP team then picked the top ten designs for the international judging board to evaluate. The presentation of each entry was of professional quality and a gift of education and awareness for those with lower limb disabilities and to the hand-cycle world.

This opportunity helped us crystalize our purpose, while combining over 50 years of trike experience in evaluating the ten accessible designs. Our evaluation team consisted of eight members including our design engineer, physical therapist, bicycle mechanic, along with a couple students and Messiah College’s Burkina Faso trike project coordinator.
Congratulations to Taufeeq Elahi Diju Winner reported in Dawn, who had the winning desing, Orbis 3.
