This update is from January 31, 2014. “ONU His Wheels Team has been making some progress after our long break.
Over the past 2 weeks, Ben and Britny have met a few times to take measurements of the trike to see where parts have room to be placed (i.e. motors, batteries, wiring, circuit board), and have designed a hopefully simple design for these. We have detached the hand pedals and the chain to free up the front end and are making plans to cut the front end soon to transform this into a caster wheel.
With the tires in the rear currently being on a free axle, we are going to need to order different tires. The tires will be on a latched axle which will feed into a right angle gear box and into each motor. After discussing with professor Makarewicz, we are going to be able to use the 2 batteries and 2 motors that are currently on an older robot in the mechanical lab.
Michelle and Brandon have been meeting with professor Makarewicz to amplify the signal that comes from the brain, and are meeting again today to further this process. Ben and Britny met this morning to design the LED panel in our CAD program which is being sent to the 3-D printer.
Our team is beginning to get very excited as things are progressing quickly and hopefully assembly will be possible in the near future and then testing.” (Written by Britny)
